Genesis Women’s Shelter & Support is a non-profit agency providing a continuum of care for women and children who are victims of family violence. For thirty years Genesis has been providing safety, shelter, crisis intervention, on-going counseling and advocacy for women and children at both residential and non-residential locations. Genesis continues to be a community leader in providing training and education on issues surrounding intimate partner and gender-based violence.
The Grant Writer will search for available grants and requests for proposals (RFP’s), research their requirements and deadlines, prepare proposals, and secure funding that aligns with Genesis’s mission and financial needs. Specific duties of the position include:
- Research grant opportunities from government/non-government agencies, foundations, corporate foundations, community agencies, et al.
- Prepare grant proposals, reports, correspondence, and budgets.
- Submit proposals and reports to Chief Impact Officer for approval. Submit approved proposals and reports to funding agencies.
- Study and understand the history, structure, objectives, programs and financial needs of the organization.
- Respond to internal and external queries on drafted and submitted proposals.
- Maintain positive relationships with funders, donors and other key stakeholders.
- Maintain records via organizational database, shared files and grant management tools.
- Maintain a calendar of RFP’s and grant reporting deadlines.
- Support site visits and related meetings from funding agencies and donors with room preparation, informational collateral, slide deck preparation, and other tasks as needed.
Skills / Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in English, communications, creative writing or a related area (master’s degree preferred)
- Minimum of two years’ experience in grant writing. Experience in writing for causes related to women, children, and/or domestic violence preferred.
- Excellent knowledge of the grant proposal submission and fundraising processes including online/electronic grant submissions, crafting compelling appeals and proposals that secure gifts and grants. A strong understanding of the local and regional philanthropic community.
- Ability to study and understand programs and funding requirements of the organization
- Knowledge in basic understanding of budgets
- Strong research skills and knowledge of information sources
- Superior organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work successfully within in a fast-paced, goal-oriented environment and meet deadlines for submitting grant proposals and reports.
- Ability to handle confidential matters with utmost integrity
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Outlook
- Experience with Blackbaud solutions including Raiser’ Edge and Research Point preferred
- Experience with grant management tools including Instrumentl or similar preferred
- Experience with AI tools for grant writing and fundraising preferred
- Experience with Canva for creating compelling slide decks and fundraising communications
- Ability to work independently and be a self-starter with little to no on-site supervision
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and written
- Ability to work collaboratively with a team
- Ability to work outside normal business hours to lead site visits, attend special events and support the agency.
