Description

Genesis Women’s Shelter & Support is a non-profit agency providing a continuum of care for women and children who are victims of family violence. For years Genesis has been providing safety, shelter, crisis intervention, on-going counseling and advocacy for women and children at both residential and non-residential locations. Genesis continues to be a community leader in providing training and education on issues surrounding intimate partner and gender-based violence.

 

The Occupational Therapist (OT) will provide direct occupational services to clients at Genesis Residential locations. In addition, the Occupational Therapist will supervise OT student interns. Develop the OT department at Genesis in regards to policies and best practice services for clients. Collaborate with Directors and Chief Officers in regards to occupational therapy treatment plans.
 

  • Develop and implement the occupational therapy plan of care; complete the occupational therapy assessment; evaluate client progress and use findings to improve occupational services; identify safety concerns as related to occupational therapy services and engage in safety planning with referred clients
  • Provide individual and group occupational therapy services to women, adolescents, and children
  • Participate in an interactive weekly client staffing meetings to discuss treatment plans for all residential clients. 
  • Facilitate drop-in occupational therapy groups for all residential clients 
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of client services in the electronic database, in compliance with agency guidelines
  • Create and cultivate working partnerships with local OT schools to garner intern students
  • Supervise, model, and train occupational therapy intern students
  • Train and engage multi-disciplinary staff regarding occupational therapy services
  • Research and establish relationships with OT community referrals
  • Consult with advocates, counselors, teachers and attorneys on clients with occupational therapy needs; including assisting in identifying when/why an occupational therapy referral would be appropriate for clients
  • Collaborate with the clinical team in maintaining and updating the Sensory Room
  • Provide speaking engagements and training to community members as needed, including providing guidance to other non-profit agencies on how to set up an OT department in their program

Skills / Requirements:

  • Masters of Science or Doctorate in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program
  • Valid Occupational Therapy license in the State of Texas
  • Valid CPR Certification (Genesis will provide opportunity to gain within first 6 months)
  • Experience working with adults and children
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
  • Ability to be an efficient problem-solver and multitask
  • Be proactive and a self-starter.
  • Provide clear and direct communication throughout the organizational structure.
  • Demonstrate good written and verbal communication skills.
